Course Selection
The information below provides guidance for students in the IDS (major, minor, Area of Concentration) program to assist them with their course selection. Questions about IDS program requirements and IDEV courses should be directed to the IDS Academic Advisor.
IDEV Course Offerings (24/25)
The following IDEV courses will no longer offered (effective Summer 2024):
- IDEV*2100, Research in International Development, will no longer be offered. Instead students will be required to take one of these courses to substitute for IDEV*2100: GEOG*2260, Applied Human Geography, POLS*2650, Political Inquiry and Research Methods or SOAN*2120, Introductory Methods.
- IDEV*2300, Theoretical Perspectives on Development. Instead students will be required take to IDEV*1100, Theoretical Perspectives on Development, to substitute for IDEV*2300.
- IDEV*3100, Sustainable Development, will no longer be offered. Instead students will be required to take one of these courses to substitute for IDEV*3100: GEOG*3020, Global Environmental Change, (), SOAN*3380, Culture, Society and Nature or UNIV*2200, Towards Sustainability. NOTE: GEOG*3020 or UNIV*2200 cannot be double-counted between the ESD area of emphasis and core requirements.
Summer 2025
The following IDEV courses are scheduled to be offered in the Summer 2025 Semester:
- IDEV*1000, Understanding Development and Global Inequalities (offered in person, not DE)

NOTE: IDEV*4100, Thesis in International Development Studies I and IDEV*4150, Thesis in International Development Studies II are available in Summer, Fall and Winter Semesters. Information and requirements for the thesis courses can be found here.
