About the Institute

The Guelph Institute of Development Studies (GIDS) provides education, research and analysis related to international development and development in Canada. The mandate of the Institute is to promote positive and inclusive change in the world and social justice for all.

Our programs bring together expertise and resources from a wide range of departments and schools at the University of Guelph, including the social sciences (geography, economics, political science, sociology and anthropology), history, languages, agriculture and the natural sciences.

Reflecting on the University's mission as a research-intensive and learner-centred institution, faculty members who teach courses in International Development Studies are actively involved in research across the globe and bring their international experience to the classroom.
